Strong Opening To Sharemarket

Trading began on a strong note on New Zealand stock exchanges yesterday, and heavy buying demand pushed prices higher over a wide range, with leaders confirming the trend. However, the overseas list was weaker.

On the Christchurch exchange some large parcels changed hands. A. B. Consolidated was actively traded at 48e, up Ic, C.F.M. fluctuated 219 c, 218 c, 220 c to close at 218 c, a gain of 13c, and closing quotations 220 c buy, 222 c sell.

Skellerup Industries again went higher, and put on 5c to 910 c. Insurances also firmed. The steady rise in U.E.B. Industries was halted, the shares lost 1c to 124 c.
