Legge Leaves Old Boys

The Old Boys and Canterbury five-eighths, L. G. Legge, will play for the Harewood Trophy holder, New Brighton, this season. One of the main reasons for his change of club is his desire to play in his favourite position, first five-eighths. Last season he was placed mostly at second five-eighths in the Old Boys’ backline, outside the former New Zealand junior representative, T. L. Mehrtens. Legge, aged 21, was an outstanding player in the first XV at Christchurch Boys’ High School and went straight into the Old Boys senior team in his first year of open Rugby, 1967. For the last two seasons he has been vicecaptain of the Canterbury Colts side. He made his debut for Canterbury A against Taranaki at New Plymouth last season. On that occasion he was at second five-eighths, but he hopes to play in the inside position for his new club.
