GOLF DATES APPROVED
The tournament dates for the sponsored $15,000 Christchurch Garden City Classic have been approved by the New Zealand Golf Professionals’ Association. The event will be held from December 4 to December 7, and will be preceded by “The Press” $lOOO pro-fessional-amateur tournament on December 3. Six sponsors had alreadypledged $7OOO, the chairman of the committee organised by the combined Christchurch Round Tables (Mr R. W. Skellerup) said last night.
The latest sponsor, Tasman Rentals, Ltd, had sponsored the first hole for $lOOO. Another sponsor for $lOOO was pending, he said, and 12 more were considering sponsorship of the remaining holes.
Mr Skellerup said the tournament itself was being sponsored at $lOOO for each hole. Lane Walker Rudkin, Ltd, had already sponsored the eighteenth hole for $2OOO and C. T. Bowring and Burgess, Ltd, insurance brokers, had agreed to give $lOOO for the first hole-in-one on the fifteenth.
With “The Press” sponsorship of the pro-am, the total prize-money would be $20,000. The tournament will also provide money for charity.
