(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND. Auckland proved too strong for Waikato in the main game when the New Zealand water polo championships began at the Olympic Pool, Newmarket, yesterday. Auckland won, 6-2. Otago held Canterbury 9-8, thanks to some excellent saves by its goal-keeper, P. Tauter. Results.—Otago 5, St George Sutherland A 4: Auckland A 13. Manawatu 3; Canterbury 9, St George Sutherland B 3: Otago 2. Wellington B 1; Waikato 6, St George Sutherland A 3; Wellington 10. Manawatu 4; Auckland beat Hawke's Bay-Poverty Bav by default; Canterbury J, Otago 8.
