Eisenhower’s Operation

(N.Z.P.A. -Reuter—Copyright) WASHINGTON, Feb. 24. The surgeons attending the former President Dwight Eisenhower reported tonight that he had survived “high-risk” intestinal surgery. General Eisenhower underwent a two-hour-and-20-minute operation by a team of 11 specialists for the removal of an intestinal obstruction, and it was later pronounced successful by the commanding officer of the Walter Reed Army Hospital, Brigadier General Frederick Hughes. Privately„the surgeons consider that the surgery entailed “a terrible risk" for General Eisenhower because of his age—he is 78—and his recent medical history. He was convalescing after a series of heart attacks which brought him close to death last summer.
