Astronauts Prepare

The three Apollo 9 astronauts today underwent extensive medical tests in readiness for the blast-off of their dramatic 10-day mission on Friday, which will enhance America’s chances of landing a man on the moon this year.
Space agency officials report that everything is proceeding smoothly in the most complex and decisive experiments of the entire Apollo project The astronauts, James McDivitt, David Scott and Russell Schweickart will test by actual flight more than 100 miles from Apollo 9, the lunar module spacecraft designed to land on the moon’s surface and take off again.
