Hagley Cycle Jump

Sir, —Even if, as I believe, the cycle routes through North Hagley Park are to be changed, surely it is not beyond the bounds of some functionary’s duty or imaginative concern to place something in the nature of a temporary gutter-bridge where cyclists must cross the new footpath at the junction of Harper Avenue, Deans Avenue, and Fendalton Road. In the last few weeks untold damage must have been done to the machines of the jumpers, and untold minutes lost by the dismounted, among the countless cyclists (very largely schoolchildren) who use the track. There is a notice reading, “Cyclists beware—main road traffic.” There should be another one warning: “Oops—mind the bump!” —Yours, etc., CYCLISTS’ MOTHER. February 23, 1969.
