Milford Track

Sir, —I was most interested in your article about Milford Track walkers. Those around 60 need not hesitate to tackle the journey. I did, and found it most rewarding. Here in Christchurch we have our own training walk at our own back door—the Bridle Path. Do it one day, and the very next day go up from the Takahe to the Summit Road through the trees. Consistently doing two days walking periodically will make any prospective walker fit. Whatever you wear, expect to get wet: but I suffered no ill effects and I have a history of pleurisy and chest complaints. I wore a pleated tricel skirt and found it most satisfactory, giving me freedom in walking, and it dried quickly at night. I hope to go again, for it is quite something—the Swiss Alps at our own back door.—Yours, etc., OVER SIXTY. February 24, 1969.
