Applicants should have an Honours Degree in Botany and the appointee will be required to read for a Higher Degree. Preference will be given to candidates having particular Interests in the taxonomy of tropical plants. The salary paid will be within the range $A3375-3 x $llO x $l2O -$3825 p.a. This position is the result of a recent increase in staff establishment in the Department of Biochemistry (Head of Department: Professor G. B. Petersen, D.Phil.). Applications are sought from candidates whose research interests lie in any field of biochemistry, including molecular biology and development biology. SALARY SCALES: Science Graduate (from April 1, 1969). Lecturer: A scale from $3lOO X $2OO to $4700 p.a. x $lOO to $4BOO p.a. Senior Lecturer: A scale from $4700 x $2OO to $5500 p.a.; thereafter a range of salaries up to $6600 p.a. Medical Graduate: Lecturer: A scale from $4270 to $6BOO with a bar at $5600 p.a. Senior Lecturer; A scale from >7OOO to $BlOO p.a. A particularly well qualified candidate could be appointed at the grade of Associate Professor at a salary within the range of $5BOO to $7300 p.a. (Science) or $B5OO to $9150 p.a. (Medical). Although teaching experience is desirable, applications will also be welcomed from young research workers with PostDoctoral experience who have enthusiasm for research and'teaching and who will enjoy < contact with both undergrade! ate and graduate students. SENIOR LECTURER IN PETROLEUM ENGINEERING j An applicant should possess a University degree, preferably with a post-graduate qualification in the field of Petroleum) Engineering. Experience in oilfield operations and reservoir! engineering is desirable. The; appointee will be required to develop courses and initiate research in Petroleum Engineer-' ing, which is at present offered in conjunction with the Mining Engineering degree course. . LECTURER IN CIVIL ENGINEERING j Applicants are required to have an Honour Degree in Civil. Engineering and to have had at least five years professional experience. Experience in struc-j tural design and construction; management is required. A knowledge of steel fabrication! procedures woyld be an advantage. The successful applicant * will assist in maintaining liaison between the University and current engineering practice. Applicants should have a good knowledge of Australian conditions. The successful applicant will be required lo give lectures at undergraduate level and to assist in post-graduate level 'structures courses. He will be "required to assist in the structure testing and advisory service of the Department, particularly in the investigation of projected structural work and the testing of large structural components. Participation in instruction in the practical aspects of civil engineering design will be an important part of his duties. . The salary for a Senior Lecturer -will be within the range $A7500-$A8750 and $A5400-$A7300 for a Lecturer. The University provides Superannuation similar to F.S.S.U., housing assistance, study leave and travel grants for permanent staff of Lecturer status and above.
