INFLUX OF TOP RUGBY MEN
Canterbury Rugby might have an embarrassing assortment of riches this winter, judging by the number of prominent players who have come to Christchurch from other unions.
Among the recent arrivals are two players who have been strong contenders for All Black honours, L. A. Scherp, the Taranaki No. 8, and B. F. Elder, the Wairarapa half-back. Both have been prominent national trialists in the last few seasons. The former Canterbury and New Zealand second fiveeights, R. C. Moreton, has returned from Wellington, and he has been followed by G. R. Weinberg, who performed well on the wing for Wellington and New Zealand Universities last year. W. J. Risman, the Canterbury lock, has returned to
Christchurch after a period in Timaru, and F. D. Eggleton, a Canterbury B flanker, is back from Bay of Plenty, wher he gained representative honours. The prospects of Moreton and Elder playing this season are a little uncertain. Moreton has not yet made a decision while Elder, who was hampered by a knee injury last year, is setting down in a farm manager’s job and might not be able to play regularly. Weinberg and Scherp, however, will be starters, and several clubs are eager for their services.
