VICTORIA OPEN

N.Z. Golfer Leading

(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) MELBOURNE.

The New Zealand professional, W. J. Godfrey, played some of his most mediocre golf but still shot a four-under-par 70 to lead by two strokes after the second round of the $lO,OOO Victoria Open golf championship yesterday. Godfrey did not hit a drive squarely but scrambled well to add a score of 70 to his fine round of 69 on Thursday.

The British professional, M- Bembridge, also carded a 70 to move into second place. The United States golfer, J. Daugherty, played his best golf in Australia for a 70 also, and shares equal third place with the Victorian professional, G. McCully, three behind Godfrey. The overnight leader, J. Davis, of Victoria, collapsed yesterday to shoot a 79 after a brilliant course-equalling record 67 in the first round.
