“CHILDREN’S PUZZLE” DESIGN FOR LONDON HOUSING PROJECT.—A new housing scheme for the Brixton area of London—shown here in model form—is based on a design of interlocking “L” shapes, described by the architects as “like fitting together a children’s puzzle.” About 1000 persons will be boused on the 6.8-acre site in buildings of five storeys or less. With more conventional architecture, it would be necessary to build blocks of flats up to 12 storeys high to house so many people on a site this size. Each unit will have electric central heating and a private patio garden, or terrace. The units will range in size from bed-sitting-rooms to four-bedroom fiats. A playground for children is included in the design.
