Sprinters To Clash At Rugby Park

The clashes between the 13-year-old girl, Lesley Trimble, and the former Canterbury athlete, Mrs A. Fraser, in the women’s 100 yards, and between the Toe H athlete, J. Bailey, and the Power House athlete, R. Quarrier, in the junior men’s 440 yards, should provide the highlights in the twilight athletic meeting at Rugby Park this evening.

Miss Trimble has recorded some splendid performances over 100 yards this season, and last Saturday at the Hornby Caledonian meeting she was timed at U.2sec. Mrs Fraser (Boxhill, Melbourne) is better known for her performances over the hurdles, but she will provide excellent competition. Quarrier has run a quartermile in 49.65ec this season in Victoria, but has not found his top form in New Zealand and he may be beaten by Bailey. The Toe H club will compete in the women’s events against Boxhill for the Tasman Shield, and the men will meet Power House, Melbourne, for the Talbot House Cup.

Box-hill seems to have the better team in the contest for the Tasman Shield, but Bailey, K. Simpson, P. Taylor and T. McGillivray should enable Toe H to win the Talbot House Cup. Simpson is improving with each run in the sprints and

should also win the long jump, Taylor has been competing successfully in the mile, and McGillivray has run a half-mile in Imin 55sec this season.
