New Zealand boats have gained platings in the first three heats of the Cherub interDominion yachting championships being sailed this week on Port Phillip Bay, 16 miles south of Melbourne.

Eleven New Zealand boats are competing on an individual basis against 24 Australian entries from all States. P. Chatfield (Gisborne), sailing Valhalla, scored the first points for New Zealand with a third placing in the second heat. In an earlier warm-up invitation race, R. Duckworth (Napier), in Mecca, gained second place behind M. Wall (New South Wales). Duckworth also came second in the third heat behind M.

Nixon (Rotorua), who won the heat in Confer. Further heats will be sailed today, Friday and Saturday, after which competitors will select their best five heats to decide the championship.
