DAIRY SALES

Outlook ‘Black’ (N.Z.P.A. Staff Correspondent) LONDON, January 6. By about the middle of this year New Zealand may have in cool storage in Britain the equivalent of half a year’s production of butter. This point was made by the Prime Minister (Mr Holyoake) in emphasising today the problems of dairy marketing.

“The outlook for dairy products in the world is black—quite black,” he said at a press conference. “Dairy products are piling up alarmingly in Britain and elsewhere.

“By May or June we’ll have in store in England very nearly half a year’s production of butter. Cheese, too, is piling up." New Zealand was the only non-dumper of dairy produce and this gave it a strong case for bigger allocations. The Prime Minister said he would discuss, with the British Prime Minister (Mr Wilson) and other Ministers, matters of trade and Britain's application to join the Common Market.
