CALL FOR TALKS

World Jews’ Reaction

(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) ROME, January 6.

The governing council of the World Jewish Congress; has called for direct peace' talks between th Arabs and; Israelis, ignoring the moves by big Powers to intervene.

The council, which represents 12 million Jews in 70 ■ countries passed a resolution stating its conviction that negotiations between the parties directly concerned are necessary to bring about a durable peace in the Middle East. It blamed the chain of violence in the area on the refusal of Arab Governments to accept Israeli proposals for direct peace negotiations. Conference sources say the resolution reflected suspicion among Jewish leaders that the big Powers would try to impose a settlement at Israel’s expense.
