Mine Shares Still Active

(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) SYDNEY’, January 6. Nickel stocks led an active mining section on the Sydney Stock Exchange today when New Broken Hill jumped 230 c to 1850 c and C.R.A. moved up 60c to 1960 c.

Metals Ex rose to 700 c, a gain of 20c, and Western Mining was up 25c to 1200 c. Great Boulder was steady at 920 c. Pacific Copper opened at 400 c this morning, a lift of 70c on Friday’s close. The stocks felt the effect of profittaking, however. Extensive selling saw the market tumble to 270 c before recovering, with buyer support, to 300. King Island Scheelite rose to 1880 c and eased to close at 1840 c, a net gain of 40c. Oil stocks were active, with 42 rises and three falls.

Kamilroi rose 35c to a' peak 175 c before closing at 145 c. Petroleum Securities gained 39c to 240 c and Woodside was in demand to finish at 152 c, with the rights at 104 c. Timor gained 13c to 125 c. Industrials were firm, with 151 rises to 87 falls. C.S.R. came in for good support, rising 56c to 660 c, before closing at 650 c. Concrete Industries gained 7c to 95e, before easing to close at 92c. B.H.P. rights were active, but they closed 20c down at 1420 c and ordinary shares were down 35c to 1905. Sales.— B.H.
