».V Z P .4 Reuter—Copyright) BELFAST (Northern Ireland) Customs officers on the Irish border separating the pro-British north from the southern independent republic are hunting pig smugglers. Officials estimate that nearly 2000 pigs a week are exported illegally from the north to the Irish Republic which pays higher prices for bacon pigs. Talks are being held hy border guards to devise new methods of detecting heat ily-laden pig lorries which cross the frontier at nights by detious routes. An Agriculture Ministry spokesman has said: “We hare been concerned about the position for some time but there is reason to believe that the smuggling may now be on the decrease. - ’ Recently the smuggling reached a peak of 3000 pigs a week.
