Linwood Leads Table Tennis
Linwood 1 retained its lead by beating South Brighton, 8-4, during the eighth round of the senior table tennis competition last evening. J. E. Kvle (Linwood) gave a good display to win all his singles matches; for South Brighton, B. Beaumont scored surprise wins over Linwood’s top players, G. R. Saunders and G. W. Makinson. An off-form L. Vallance, who failed to score a singles victory, was a major disappointment in Linwood II losing to Wallabies, five matches to seven. Avonside I, led by Ling Nan Ming, defeated the club’s number 2 team, 9-3. Chia Kah Ming scored a good win by beating M. J. Flewellen (Avonside II). J. Armstrong remained at the top of the individual points ladder with his three singles victories for Riccarton against Selwyn. The competition will resume in mid-January. Points to date: Linwood I 14.
