Road Tunnel Traffic
For the first 17 days of this month the vehicle tolls showed an increase on the budget of $3267, Mr R. A. Witbrock, the chairman, reported to the Christchurch-Lyttelton Road Tunnel Authority yesterday. The increase of $3709 in truck toll revenue was almost entirely a result of three shipments of phosphate and sulphate of ammonia, Mr Witbrock said. There would be a fall off in commercial traffic during the holidays, he said, and motor-car traffic was uncertain because there was only one steamer-express sailing. However, it was likely that the month would end with an increase on last year, he said. The authority agreed to support an application for Thurs-day-night shopping in Lyttelton.
