Instrument Landing
Officials at Christchurch airport hope that the instrument landing system, which has been out of use since April, will be restored by the end of this week. A team of three engineers from the Civil Aviation Division in Wellington has arrived at the airport to install equipment which will make the system usable again. Mr M. Spackman, who is in charge of the job, said yesterday he hoped to have the system working again by the week-end.
Mr Spackman and his fellow engineers worked through last night to be ready for the arrival today of the department’s calibration aircraft which will test the system.
