Qualifications: Applicants must have been in practice as a Barrister or Solicitor for a period amounting in the aggregate to not less than five years. Term of Appointment; Two or three years, depending on agreement, terminable on six months’ notice by either side. Nature of Appointment: Appointment will be in terms of the Western Samoa Judicature Ordinance (No. 26 or 1961). The Magistrate is deemed, by virtue of his office, to have been apI pointed a coroner and it is also possible for him to be appointed to any other office not incompatible with that of Magistrate. Salary and Allowances: The salary . is SWS44OO (SWSI= SNZI.2S). A married man will receive an expatriation allowance of SWS4OO p.a., . plus SWSIIO p.a. for each dependent child residing in Western Samoa. A boarding allowance of SWS23O p.a. is payable for each dependent child remaining in New Zealand. An inducement allowance of SWS2OO p.a. will be paid at the end of the term, together with a re-estab, lishment grant of SWS6O each for the officer and his wife plus SWIO for each dependent child reading in Western Samoa. A house with heavy furniture is provided for a married man at a rental of SWS24O p.a. A soft furnishing allowance of up to SWSSO may be claimed. Storage charges up to SNZ3 per week on the appointee’s belongings left in New Zealand will be met. (Allowances are appor. tionable in the event of the agreed term not being served.) Transportation Costs and Leave: Single economy air fares for the appointee and his family by the most direct route from the place of recruitment to Apia will be paid by the Western Samoan Government, provided he remains in the position for one year. Return fares will be paid on the satisfactory completiton of the term, or if the appointment is cancelled through no fault of the appointee of because of circumstances over which he has no control. Charges for excess air baggage up to first-class baggage entitlement (if air freighted as “unaccompanied baggage”) and sea freight on household and personal effects (excluding motor vehicles) up to 60 cubic feet for a single appointee and 180 cubic feet for a married man, with an additional 20 cubic feet for each child, will be met by the Western Samoa Government. An allowance of SWS4O towards the cost of freight on the appointee’s motor vehicle will also be paid at the end of the term. Furlough is granted at the rate of one month for each completed year of serve, in addition to local leave and sick leave at New Zealand Public Service rates.
