Clay Goes To Gaol
(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) | MIAMI, Dec. 17. | The former world heavy-! weight boxing champion, Cassius Clay, has reported to the Dade County Gaol to begin serving a HLday sentence for several traffic violations. Clay, who lost his boxing crown after refusing to serve in the armed forces, had earlier held a brief news conference at the office of his attorney, where he stressed that, as a Black Moslem min-j ister, he intended to obey the! law. He repeated that his draft conviction had been the result of the white community trying to make an example out of him. Clay is expected to make an appeal in the traffic case and may not have to serve the full sentence. His appeal on the draft conviction is expected to be heard by the! Supreme Court and in the meantime he is on bail.
