Report On Defence
(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Dec. 17. The Cabinet today received a report on discussions held in Canberra last week on the future of New Zealand and Australian defence commitments in Malaysia. The Prime Minister (Mr Holyoake) said after the Cabinet meeting tonight that the Chief of Defence Staff; Lieutenant-General Sir Leonard Thornton, and the Secretary of External Affairs (Mr G. R. Laking), who attended the meeting, had reported on the discussions.
"The meeting in Canberra was just another phase in the continuing discussions on the shape, size and deployment of units in Malaysia,” Mr Holyoake said.
