“BEEHIVE” WING
Start Next Year (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Dec. 13. Latest indications were that the proposed “Beehive” wing of Parliament Buildings would be ready for occupation in the latter half of 1974, the Prime Minister (Mr Holyoake) said in Parliament today. Replying to a question from Mr G. F. Gair (Nat., North Shore), Mr Holyoake said that work on stage I of the “Beehive” building—the demolition of the front of the present wooden building, and excavation and structural concrete work on the drum of the new building to ground-floor level—was due to start by the end of next year. Stage I would also include the construction of an underground car park and access drive, in front of the present Parliament House. Work on the final stage II of the contract should begin by the middle of 1,971, Mr Holyoake said. I
