Police Find Proceeds Of Robbery

Detectives investigating the armed robbery in Mount Wellington on Thursday found the $3487 stolen from a bank teller in swampland near King’s College, Otahuhu, on Saturday evening, said a Press Association message from Auckland.

Detective Sergeant J. W. Tootill and Detective Sergeant J. Sheehan found the money inside a plastic bag buried near the college tennis courts. The officer in charge of the police inquiry into the robbery, Detective Inspector J. F. Stevenson, said the money was damp but intact. It appeared to have been buried by hand. The discovery of the money, ended three days of intensive I police inquiries into the robbery at the Sylvia Park 1 branch of the Auckland Savings Bank. According to a Tauranga message a Mount Maunganui fisherman was remanded in custody to the Otahuhu Magistrate’s Court today when he appeared before Mr L. E. Woods, S.M., in the Tauranga Court on Saturday. The man, Dean Hugh William Wickliffe, aged 20, of Marine Parade, was charged that on December 12 at Auckland, being armed with an offensive weapon, a sawn-off| jshotgun, he robbed Bruce; Graham Shepherd of 53487. No plea was taken. Wickliffe was also charged with being idle and disorderly in that he had insuffi- I cient lawful means of sup- , port. Wickliffe was remanded ; to appear on this charge in the Tauranga Court on Janu-i ary 14. Information gathered in Auckland led to the investigation into the Mount Wellington bank robbery being continued in Te Puke. The search was changed to Te Puke after police in Auckland recovered a sawn-off

shotgun, an empty suitcase, a pair of moccasins, a pair of dark glasses, and a jacket in a bamboo patch near the southern motorway, neai Otara.
