Players Strike

(N.Z.P. A.-Reuter—Copyright ) OLDHAM (England), December 14 An English Rugby league match had to be called off today when the players struck because the ground was too hard. Both teams refused to play after the referee, Mr lan Meskimmon, had ruled earlier that the game could begin. Their decision stunned supporters who were crowding on to the terraces for the clash between Oldham and Leigh. Leigh officials agreed with the players’ revolt, but Oldham officials said the game could still be played. Oldham relented in the end and began handing out vouchers for a rearranged date to Oldham fans and cash refunds to Leigh supporters.
