Kanhai saved the touring cricketers from embar- i rassment on Saturday when ! he scored a whirlwind double century that led his side to a first innings win over Queensland Country. Kanhai came to the crease when the West Indies bad lost two wickets for 12 in reply to the Country Xi’s 299. He kept the score-keepers on the run for 219 minutes during which he scored a magnificent 206, which included eight sixes and 21 fours. After Kanhai went, the remaining batsmen were equally merciless, and the West Indies amassed 475 runs for the loss of six wickets in only 270 minutes. B. F. Butcher made 72, K. Holford 61 not out, C. Davis 53, G. S. Sobers 36 and W. W. Hall 31 not out. Earlier in the day, Queensland Country carried its overnight total of 271 for eight to 299. R. Edwards took four for 44 and L. King three for 57.
