Nino Benevenuti, the 30-year-old son of an Italian fisherman, retained the world middle-weight boxing ,| title on Saturday when i he outpointed the American, Don Full- ! mer over 15 rounds. j Benvenuti’s occasional ! strong punching and intelligent defence proved too good for the American. Benvenuti was floored by a wild right swing to the head in the seventh round. But he was on his feet as the referee began the count. Benvenuti outclassed the 29-year-old Fullmer with per-fectly-timed hooks. A red welt appeared under Fullmer’s
eye in the second round, and a vicious left-right combination opened a cut on his nose in the fifth.
The referee scored the fight i 72-69, one judge 71-65 and the other 73-68. There was a clash outside the stadium between police and Left Wing students before the fight. In Manila on Saturday evening Pedro Adigue of the Philippines outpointed Adolph Pruitt of the United States over 15 rounds to win the World Boxing Council’s version of the world junior welter-weight championship.
