Secondary Titles

More than 100 players will compete in the Canterbury secondary schools tennis champion* ships this week. As usual entries are small in the open boys’ section because of the boys taking holiday jobs, but other sections, under 16 and third form, are well supported, especially by girls. Players will take part from Timaru, Geraldine, Culverden, Darfleld, Rangiora, Lincoln and most Christchurch secondary schools. The boys’ open section will be played as a round-robin. In the girls’ open section are the province’s three leading juniors, R. Legge. R. Dillon and G. Hampton, all members of the Howe Shield team for the second year in succession. The tournament will be olayed on the grass at Wilding Park, today, tomorrow, Wednesday and Thursday. Seedings for singles are:— Open Boys.—Round-robin. Girls. —R. Legge (Avonside) 1, R.
