Nigerian Jets Bomb Town

(N Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright! UMUAHIA (Biafra), Dec. 15. Nigerian jets have bombed this small Biafran administrative headquarters town for the second time in 24 hours, killing 20 people and wounding 187 others.

The jets attacked in relays for more than 15 minutes, yesterday, using rockets, cannons and machine-guns. Four Nigerian jets also

raided the town on Friday and according to Biafran officials, the death toll in this raid rose today from 27 to 49. In yesterday’s attack, several residential areas were hit. ■ At least 15 Nigerian prisoners of war in the town’s gaols were wounded by rockets. The Biafran Defence Headquarters also reported that one of the four planes which attacked Umuahia bn Friday crashed on its way back to Calabar. All four occupants, said to be two Britons, one Russian and one Nigerian, were killed. The announcement said the plane was a Russian-built Ilyushin 28 bomber. It said the plane crashed more than 100 miles south-east of Umuahia.
