GLIDERS IN DOMAIN

Opposition To Proposal

A protest against a proposal to allow a 100-acre block of the Hororata Domain to be used by gliders was made by Mr B. Clarke, of Hororata, in a letter received by the Malvern Counity Council meeting yesterday. He said there were rumours that the land, now leased for farming, would be developed as a landing field. The noise that would be made by light aircraft would be detrimental to the peace of the district. “He’s ahead of the gun by about a year,” said Cr W. H. Oliver. “There is a request from the Glider Club for the use of the land and the Hororata Domains Board has taken it up with the Lands and Survey Department.” The council decided to refer the protest to the board ; for its comment.
