NEW POST AS R.S.M.

Warrant Officer C. M. Schwass, the regimental ser-geant-major of Burnham Military Camp, will take up a new appointment as regimental- sergeant-major of the Christchurch Army area on Monday. Warrant Officer Schwass has established a record of 10 R.S.M. appointments in his

29 years in his Army career, but this is his first such appointment outside an Army camp.

At Burnham yesterday afternoon he was presented with his own sword—an unusual honour—in recognition of his long service by Warrant Officer B. C. McCormack, president of the sergeant’s mess committee. The Band of the New Zealand Army also presented him with the tape of a new march dedicated to W’arrant Officer Schwass. Called “Standfast,’’ it gained this title from Warrant Officer Schwass’s instruction from the camp headquarters each evening as the flag was lowered. The commander of the Southern Military District (Brigader W. R. K. Morrison), who attended the function, praised Warrant Officer Schwass’s service.
