Announcing this today, theMinister of Tourism (Mr Thomson) said in a state-: ment that Government assistance was welcomed by the county council in view of

their relatively small rating income. “The establishment of this domain will provide not only a pleasant and attractive recreational facility, but will also be a fitting memorial to the men who explored and pioneered .Fiordland.” ;. Emphasising the need for this additional attraction in the area, Mr Thomson said more than 210,000 visitors passed, through Te Anau last year—almost all of whom were visiting Fiordland National Park and Milford Sound.
