DISEASE AT SCHOOL

/Tests Suggest Impetigo’

Laboratory tests had confirmed that the skin ailment affecting young pupils of the Harewood School was a staphylococcal infection, said Dr C. M. Collins, the Christchurch Deputy Medical Officer of Health, yesterday. Dr Collins said that this suggested that the disease was impetigo, which was not now regarded as seriously as it once was. As iong as the children affected were under medical treatment, there was no reason why they should not continue to attend school. The treatment prevented any spreading of the infection. One case had cleared up in two or three days, Dr Collins said, so he did not think there was anything serious about it.
