SCENIC JET FLIGHTS
Proceeds To Home Half-hour scenic flights over the Southern Alps will be made by one of the new Boeing 737 jet aircraft of the National Airways Corporation on Sunday, December 1, to raise money for the Sir George Manning Old People’s Home appeal. The Christchurch Lions Club has chartered the plane and the flights will cost $6, which is about half the cost of a normal flight to Wellington, which takes about the same time;
If the support is sufficient there would be another series of flights on December 8, Mr A. L. Malcolm, the club's first vice-president, said yesterday. The flights would give the public a chance to fly in the new jets at a greatly reduced cost and see scenery not seen from regular scheduled N.A.C. flights, he said, and at the same time there would be a contribution to a worth-while charitable project. The plane would carry a flight crew and hostesses as in a normal scheduled flight. Tickets would be sold in advance. Mr Malcolm said, and the money would be refunded if the weather was unsuitable on the day. The tickets were being sold in all shops of the New Zealand Farmers' Co-operative Association, Ltd, which, with the airways corporation. had shown great co-operation in the project.
