Linwood Park
Sir, —On Labour Day about 4000 people attended the annual picnic at Linwood Park. It was, it seemed, a great success, a perfect day for a family outing. But one thing was very wrong—the inade quate toilet accommodation for both sexes. This was not the fault of the organisers of the picnic. A great job was done in endeavouring to keep the toilets clean and functional. But the City Council : must be made to realise the [ need for adequate toilet accommodation at such a popular park. The Health Department is not satisfied with them and has said so. Fori the comfort and health of the' families who use Linwood, Park extra toilets must be; built.—Yours, etc., W.J.J. ( October 31, 1968. ( (The Christchurch City; Council’s director of reserves, Mr H. G. Gilpin, replies: “The toilet facilities 'provided at Linwood Park are adequate for normal park use. To provide sufficient toilets for 4000 people, to be used one day each year would be uneconomic. With such large numbers of people attending this picnic an alternative area such as Queen Elizabeth II Park would be more suitable. Perhaps the organisers may consider changing the venue for future occasions.”]
