HERMITAGE PLAN
Park Board Approval
Complete agreement with the South Island Publicity Association’s suggested plan of development for the Hermitage promontory at Mount Cook was expressed in a resolution ; Jopted at a meeting last week-end by the Mount Cook National Park Board. The chairman (Mr N. S. Coad) said the board commended the association for its imaginative approach. The resolution said the board had long advocated the principles advanced by the association of high density development of the Hermitage area for all grades of visitor accommodation, with servicing development to be sited elsewhere. “The board is particularly pleased to see that the sketch plan also shows an understanding of the need to preserve the remnants of the bush which give t■ e area its distinctive character and ap peal.
“The board is in full accord with the suggestion that all buildings on the Hermitage promontory be planned and sited now, and can see that when a high density scheme goes ahead there will be a need for co-operative administration, with the administering body being assisted by an advisory group drawn from local bodv, tourist in terests. and the National Park Board.”
