ARTIFICIAL FERTILISER
Investigation Of Prospects (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Nov. 6. The Department of Scientific and Industrial Research had set up a working party to see if it was technically possible to establish an artificial nitrogenous fertiliser industry in New Zealand, the Minister of Agriculture (Mr Taiboys) said in Parliament today. Replying to Mr R. L. G. Talbot (Nat., Ashburton), the Minister said the working party would also seek to establish trends in the agricultural use of nitrogenous fertilisers, and to attempt to forecast j these trends.
Mr Talbot had asked for an indication of how much research was being done by the departments of Agriculture and Scientific and Industrial Research into the use of artificial nitrogenous fertilisers for both cropping and pastoral farming. Recently interest in nitrogenous fertiliser had been stimulated by a Christchurch group set up by the Canterbury’ Chamber of Commerce, Mr Taiboys said. Asked by Mr S. A. White- | head (Lab., Nelson) if conj sideration was being given to ; the production of nitrogenous fertilisers from coal, the I Minister said this was one of I the fields being studied.
