Aust. Girl’s Three Gold

New Zealanders made a disappointing start on the first day of the Paraplegic Games yesterday, in the face of strong competition. N. Brown and R. Wright (both of Auckland) were eliminated in the archery, and in the snooker, J. Savage (Kawerau) lost to an American, 2-1.
Others to be defeated were J. Reupena (Hamilton), snooker, P. Read (Mosgiel) and G. Marrett (Dunedin), table tennis, and Savage and L. Stott (Invercargill) bowl-
ing. The Australian, Miss L. Dodd, a 24-year-old civil servant from Perth won three swimming gold medals yesterday, in the breaststroke, backstroge and freestyle, setting new games records in each event. She won the greestyle in 26.95ec, the baskstroke in 32sec and the breaststroke in 32.8 sec.
Australian competitors also won two silver medals—Miss S. Lamb in the backstroke, and F. Ponta in the men’s backstroke.
Mrs D. Ingrams, who was disabled in a car accident three years ago, won Britain's first swimming gold medal, taking the 25 metres backstroke in 43.95ec. Other swimming victories went to competitors from the United States (2), Germany, France (2), Rhodesia and the Netherlands.
