U.S. Ambassadors Will All Resign

(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON,

The United States Ambassador to New Zealand (Mr J. F. Henning) will formally tender his resignation to the new United States President (Mr Richard Nixon) when the latter enters the White House.

The acting public affairs officer of the United States Embassy in Wellington (Mr C. C. Ransom), said today that United States ambassadors all over the world would tender their resignations.

“The resignations are sent in as a matter of form, regardless of who won the elections.” The new President would undoubtedly select new appointees for some key diplomatic posts, but widespread changes were most unlikely. Mr Henning, like all United States ambassadors, is a personal appointee of the President. His tenure of the post, which he has held for the last two years, will depend upon the decision of the incoming President.
