APPEAL IS DISMISSED
(N.Z. Press Association} WELLINGTON, Nov. 7. The Court of Appeal today dismissed an appeal against a sentence of preventive detention by Alfred Thomas Vincent (Mr J. B. Stevenson). The Court comprised Mr Justice North, Mr Justice Turner and Mr Justice Hardie Boys. Vincent was sentenced to preventive detention by Mr Justice Macarthur in the Supreme Court at Christchurch on September 27 on seven charges of indecent assault on boys. Mr Stevenson submitted that, having regard to Vincent’s desire for treatment and his prospects for reformation, he should be given a finite sentence. Mr Justice North, in delivering the judgment, said: “We are quite satisfied the case was so bad that this sentence was a proper one.”
