Fireman Burnt
Fireman I. Brooklands suffered burns to his arms yesterday morning when he was searching for an 80-year-old man reported to be in his Spreydon house, which was burning fiercely. The man, Mr J. E. Wilson, of 7 Fairview Street, was in fact playing bowls when his house caught fire. But neighbours, who did not see him leave, thought he was in the house. Firemen wearing breathing apparatus searched the sixroomed house, two rooms of which were gutted by the fire fanned by a strong easterly wind. The rest of the house was damaged by water and smoke.
