Berlin Students Warned

(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright)

WEST BERLIN,

November 6.

Radical students were braced for a new street confrontation with police today in spite of stern official warning that if they persist in violence they will be treated as criminals.

The City Government’s Senator for the Interior (Mr Kurt Neubauer) told students

on television last night that the police would use all means to combat crime and street riots.

Earlier he told reporters in the city hall after a special City Government meeting that a policeman would be justified in drawing his gun in self-defence. The warning came after a three hour street battle between students and police outside a West Berlin court on Monday during which 130 policemen were injured by demonstrators throwing stones and Molotov cocktails. The battle was the worst of its kind between students

and the police, who retaliated with tear-gas grenades and water cannon. More than 20 demonstrators were hurt.

The Left-wing students today aimed to prevent a public rally of Chancellor KurtGeorg Kiesinger’s Christian Democratic Party from taking place. The Chancellor will be the main speaker at the rally, which will be held in a beer hall in the working-class suburb of Neukoelln,

The students said they would use all means to try to prevent Berliners, party delegates and invited guests from reaching the hall. The rally is being held in

connection with the party's congress here—the first held in West Berlin for 16 years.

Deprived Of Nationality.— Nineteen Greeks have been deprived of their nationality for activities against the State, according to a decision of the Deputy Prime Minister (Mr S. Pattakos) published in the official Gazette today. Anotonios Brillakis, formerly a deputy of the pro-Commun-ist United Democratic Left Party, who is now abroad, was the only widely-known person affected by the order. —Athens, November 6.
