Stamps Firm Starts Action
(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, November 6.
The Crown Law Office today confirmed that the Solicitor-General (Mr J. C. White) had been served an originating summons from the Auckland Supreme Court filed by the Tiki Trading Company, Ltd.
The company yesterday filed a motion for the summons to determine the legality of its trading stamp scheme.
A spokesman for the Crown Law Office said the SolicitorGeneral received the summons by registered post yesterday afternoon. Asked if the SolicitorGeneral would be filing affidavits after which the matter would be set down for hearing, the spokesman said a course of action had not yet been decided. He would not comment further.
Trading stamp retailers in Auckland will meet tonight to form themselves into an association.
The organiser of the meeting, Miss June Lake, owner of a handcrafts shop, said: “People have not yet heard the retailers’ side of the story. “From what I’ve heard, most members of the public don't know much about the
scheme. I think it will be a very good thing for small retailers.”
