ROBBERY, ASSAULT
Severe Head Injuries (N.Z. Press Association) GORE, Nov. 6. A man who last night drove three youths to an Invercargill destination was later beaten unconscious, robbed of money and a watch, and had his car taken. The man, John Francis Forde, aged 21, of 177 Margaret Street, Invercargill, was admitted to Kew Hospital with severe head injuries. Mr Forde drove the three youths to Fairweather Road, Waikiwi. He alighted from his car, and was struck on the head with beer bottles, suffered severe head injuries, and lost consciousness. He was bound by the assailants, and robbed. The car, when found in Mataura, had been damaged. Another vehicle, taken from Mataura, was found in Alexandra.
The police said the three youths concerned were all known to be under 21.
The police in Central Otago last night were still seeking the youths, one of whom is thought to be injured.
