Retirements At Port
Captain L. G. Garnham, a former Port Line officer, has relieved Captain P. J. Howe as head stevedore at Kinsey and Company, Ltd, Lyttelton. Captain Garnham has been with Kinseys for 11 years. Captain Howe, also a former Port Line officer, was head stevedore at Kinseys for 28 years before retiring last week.
Cr J. E. Hemsley, a newlyelected Lyttelton Borough councillor who has been a Lyttelton Harbour Board employee for nearly 40. years, the last five as foreman of works, retired this week. He has been relieved by Mr F. J. Hopkins, who has been with the board for 22 years. At Lyttelton on Tuesday evening shipping and business associates met at a function to mark the retirement of Captain Howe and Cr Hemsley. The assistant manager for the Lyttelton branch of the New Zealand Stevedoring and Wharfingering Company, Ltd, Captain A. D. English, presented both men with a gift.
