ENTRY OF N.Z. FISH
Australians Protest
(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Oct. 4. Australian fishermen are protesting against the entry of New Zealand fish on to the Australian market. The latest issue of the New Zealand magazine, “Commercial Fishing,” says that the Australian Fishing Industry Council wants an early meeting with New Zealanders to discuss “regulating supplies.” The Australian fishermen claimed that tarakihi was flown to the Sydney markets four hours after being caught and sold 10c a lb cheaper than the Australian-caught varieties. These take 10 hours to reach the markets by road.
Chief of General Staff.— The Chief of the General Staff of the British Army (General Sir Geoffrey Baker) will visit New Zealand from October 14 to 17, the Minister of Defence (Mr Thomson) said today.— (P.A.)
