2 ½ % PAY RISE
Firm’s New Owner fN.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Sept. 13. The staff of Burke’s, Ltd, shoe manufacturers, of New Plymouth, has been given a 2f per cent pay rise, only a few weeks after the company as formerly constructed was declared bankrupt In a personal letter to each staff member, Mr A. S. Cornish, the Wellington property magnate who bought the ailing company, said: “I have given instructions that all staff should have their wages increased by 2f per cent as from October 1 “This is only a token gesture, and I hope to do better for you when the firm is earning profits. “Later I hope to Introduce a bonus plan and arrange for Burke's staff to be included in the organisation’* superannuation scheme."
