LEAGUE FINAL

Title For Auckland (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND. Capitalising on its opponent’s mistakes, Auckland overcame a lack of possession to beat Wellington, 28-4, in the Rothmans national Rugby league final ou Saturday. Of the six tries Auckland scored, all but one came from secondary play. This was the result of the New Zealand hooker, C. E. O’Neil, winning two out of every three scrums against the new Auckland rake, M. G. Dines. Wellington, winning so much of the possession held the initiative for the first 30 minutes. Then the Auckland scrum-half, E. M. Carson, quickly shattered Wellington’s high hopes by darting in for two snap tries, to put the title-holder into a 10-2 halftime lead. Even when Wellington did penetrate the tenacious Auckland defence, in the second half, it bungled vital passes.

For Auckland, Carson (3), R. I. Orchard, Dines and A. P. Kriletich scored tries, and J. D. EUwood kicked five goals. P. Simmonds kicked two goals for Wellington.
